I was a teacher who always wanted to [be a righter] –

And never was.

A writer who only wronged.

[A lesson] never quite properly [wrought].

[And] all I ever wanted was to [spread your wings],

And show you what we should, 

And show you how [we] would [sing].

But as life would have it, we never could.

All that never was: so sad it never ended up.

So sad [the stars] above remained, quite removed 

From the view [we daily] night’ve [shared]:
