On popping the question

You battle away at my tittle-tattle; maybe rightly

you under-

mine

my

overbearing presumption.

Yet in the e-

vent-

ing, we both behave remark-

ably ration-

all-

y.

And the wherefores and whys and becauses

and ofs and thens and wrongs

and rights and lefts

and downs

and ups …

… they mean nothing to us after

that crossing of the

line with a sur

prising

ease; with a sur

prising teasing of curious approaching.

And I am a tad

a-

f-

raided by this all:

is it a sign of permanent change for the

good or would it be right to

accept that without an acceptance of failure

success cannot proceed out of the

un-

happ-

y?
